Why You Need a Level 2 Electrician in Newcastle

Need more than a regular sparkie? A Level 2 ASP is authorised to work on your property's supply - service lines, meters and consumer mains. Learn when to call one.

In NSW, not every electrician is authorised to work on the electrical supply to your property. A Level 2 Accredited Service Provider is licensed to work on the service line, metering and connection between your premises and the network. If the issue sits before your switchboard - service line, point of attachment, meter, consumer mains - you need a Level 2 electrician, not an everyday sparkie.

What a Level 2 electrician is authorised to do

Disconnect / reconnect supply at the point of attachment; repair or replace service lines overhead or underground; repair or relocate points of attachment and service brackets; upgrade consumer mains and main earthing; carry out metering work; clear electrical defect notices issued by the network or an inspector; and install, repair or replace private power poles. If it involves the line into your property, the meter box, or the cables feeding your switchboard, it's Level 2 work.

When to call one (common scenarios)

No power to your property but surrounding homes still have supply. Damaged or low-hanging service lines after wind or tree contact. Burnt, water-damaged or corroded meter boxes, melted neutrals or terminals. Defect notices that must be rectified within a timeframe. Switchboard or meter relocations, consumer mains upgrades. Private poles that are leaning, split, rusted or impacted. Adding capacity where mains aren't sufficient.

Safety first

Do not touch overhead lines, meter box internals or consumer mains. Keep clear of any damaged, hot or buzzing equipment and call a Level 2 electrician on 0474 915 389.
